Meet Our Coaches

Darlene Rankin

Owner & Certified Trainer

My love for fitness began about 10 years ago when I finally made the decision that it was time to stop talking about it and actually do something about it! It was then that I joined a gym and began eating healthy. It didn’t take long to notice changes in my energy, cardiovascular endurance, strength, inches, and weight loss. I felt amazing!!! So amazing that I decided I would love to be a personal trainer and help people with their fitness goals. 

In 2010, I became a certified AA personal trainer at a local gym and in 2011 I set another goal, which was to take part in the NSBBA competition. It was a great experience and I was happy to reach another goal. I made the decision to leave “gym life” behind in 2012 and start providing fitness classes and personal training, in New Waterford, under my own business name “Get Fit with Darlene Rankin”. The classes and training started going so well that I took my classes to Reserve Mines and Sydney and not long after “Fit for Life” was born.

All in all, my greatest passion is healthy living - which incorporates all levels of fitness including physical, emotional, spiritual, nutritional, and mental health! At Fit for Life, we believe this can only be accomplished inside of community and we want to be that community for you!

My passion for fitness started about 5 years ago while I was living in Halifax, attending a local gym and taking part in group-training and boot camps! After I moved back home to Cape Breton I wasn’t as motivated doing my own thing anymore so I made the decision that I was going to become a member at Fit for Life…

Funny story, on my way in to buy a membership, something came up and I had to return home mid-drive. I told myself, “That’s ok, you can go back in tomorrow!” Later that day, I saw that Fit for Life was hiring a Part-Time Front Desk Associate! I applied right away and the rest is history! 

I’ve now been working full time at Fit for Life for one year and I can honestly say that every day I look forward to coming to work! Fit for Life is truly a special place, where everyday I get to watch women push themselves & each other; cheer each other on; and crush their goals - including me! 

It is an amazing feeling when you make friends who become family, and that’s what we are…Fit for Life is a family of strong, beautiful, inspiring women whom I am beyond blessed to call my own!

Charlotte

Registered Holistic Nutritional Consultant (R.H.N) & Group Fitness Specialist

Charlotte has always had an interest in health and fitness. In 2014, Charlotte completed her undergraduate degree in Psychology, but realized that this wasn’t her true passion. She then enrolled in a two-year Natural Nutrition program to become a Registered Holistic Nutritional Consultant. Since then she’s been busy with healthy eating plans, weight loss plans, holistic assessments, workshops, seminars and more. 

“I have always enjoyed eating a healthy diet because I realize the importance of nourishing our bodies with natural, good quality and whole foods”. 

Although she has always been active, through her 17 years of dance, she has recently discovered just how important a balanced lifestyle between nutrition and exercise really is. She is currently a Certified Group Fitness Specialist through the International Sports Science Association and instructs a wide variety of classes throughout the week. 

Charlotte continues to deepen her practice and teaching skills by attending various training sessions and workshops to excite and inspire members. She will shortly become certified in detoxification processes and continues to educate herself on all aspects of health.
